Ski Field Transfers from Queenstown to Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Cardrona
Three mountains, three very different drives, one phone number. Green Cabs runs skiers and boarders from Queenstown, Frankton, Arrowtown and Wanaka up to Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Cardrona. Our vehicles take take your gear securely and our drivers know what the access roads do in a southerly.
How much does a taxi to the Queenstown ski fields cost?
A ski field transfer runs on the iCabbi meter, the same meter as any other Green Cabs trip. From central Queenstown, expect roughly $140 to $165 to Coronet Peak, $220 to $260 to The Remarkables and $320 to $375 to Cardrona. Fixed quotes are available if you would rather lock the fare in before you travel.
- Queenstown CBD to Coronet Peak Car: $140 - Van: $165
- Queenstown CBD to The Remarkables Car: $220 - Van: $260
- Queenstown CBD to Cardrona Car: $320 - Van: $375
- Queenstown Airport to Coronet Peak Car: $180 - Van: $215
- Queenstown Airport to The Remarkables Car: $175 - Van: $205
- Wanaka to Cardrona Car: $175 - Van: $225
Fares are approximate and metered, so they move with traffic, road conditions and time of day.
What the meter does not do is change because the snow is good. There is no surge pricing on a powder day, no holiday loading over the school break and no early start premium for a 7am pickup. The fare you are quoted is the fare structure you would get on a Tuesday in November.
If you are travelling as a group, ask for a fixed quote when you book so everyone knows what they are splitting before the skis go in the back. Van fares are quoted at the time of booking, because the load and the field both make a real difference to the run.
How long does it take to get to each ski field?
Coronet Peak is about 16 km from central Queenstown, roughly 20 minutes on a fully sealed alpine road. The Remarkables is 24 km, sealed for the first 10 km and unsealed and switchbacked after that. Cardrona is 59 km over the Crown Range, usually 1 to 1.5 hours depending on conditions.
- Queenstown CBD to Coronet Peak - Roughly 16km in distance and a 20 minute drive.
- Queenstown CBD to The Remarkables - 24km in distance and a 40 - 50 minute drive.
- Queenstown CBD to Cardrona - 59km in distance and a 1 to 1.5 hour drive.
Those are fine weather times. On a busy Saturday morning the mountain roads carry a lot more traffic than the distance suggests, so if you want first lifts, book earlier than the maths tells you to.
Parking is the other reason people ride up rather than drive. Coronet Peak runs seven car parks and they fill quickly on peak days and after fresh snow. The Remarkables runs five along the access road and can put carpool priority in place when it gets busy. Being dropped at the base building takes all of that out of your morning.
Gear, groups and getting picked up again
Green Cabs runs a mix of cars and vans, so skis, boards, boot bags and a full group can travel together rather than in two trips. Bookings run 24/7 through the app, the website or 0800 76 76 73, and the same vehicle can collect you at the end of the day.
Tell us what you are carrying when you book. Skis and boards need a van or a wagon, and getting that right up front saves a second trip.
A van keeps a group together and usually works out better than two cars for four people.
Book your return when you book the run up, especially if you are skiing Coronet Peak at night. Mountain pickups get busy at closing.
Cardrona sits between the two towns, so we pick up from Wanaka as well as Queenstown.
Every Green Cabs vehicle carries a security camera, GPS tracking and an in-car panic alarm. Vehicles run on heavy duty all terrain tyres and snow chains are fitted when required.
Book your ski field transfer
Book a ski field transfer by calling 0800 76 76 73, using the Green Cabs app or booking through the website. Give us the field, the pickup time, the number of passengers and what gear is coming, and ask for a fixed quote if you want the fare locked in before the day.
The Queenstown ski season usually runs from mid June to early October, with each mountain setting its own opening and closing dates. Book the day before where you can, particularly for weekend mornings and school holidays, and let us know your lift pass time so the pickup lands in the right place.
Questions about fares, or want a quote for a group? Give us a call. We are local, we drive these roads all winter, and we would rather talk it through than have you guess.
